Available either with a single cylinder or a double cylinder, both versions of the deadbolt enhance security protection on top of the typical door lock. Usually installed above a door knob, a single cylinder deadlock will accept a key on the external side of the lock, but be operated by a twist knob on the inside of the property. A double cylinder lock will accept a key on the part of the deadlock inside of the property, or will rather have a twist knob to eject the deadbolt's shaft into place in the door jam. A double cylinder deadlock without a twist knob is highly suitable for glass doors, or doors located near windows. In case of forced entry attempts, smashing the glass will not help the thieve gain access, as without a key or a manual knob, the deadlock cannot be opened. In case of a residential fire, occupants will need the correct key in order to open a double cylinder door and evacuate the premise.
